Psalm 56

1Have mercy on me, God, for man devours me; all day long he fights and crushes me.

2My enemies pant after me all day long, for many fight against me from on high.

3When I am afraid, I trust in you.

4In God I boast of his word; in God I trust—I will not fear what flesh can do to me.

5They twist my words against me all day; all their thoughts are for evil.

6They gather, hide themselves, and lie in wait, watching my steps as they wait for my soul.

7Will they escape by iniquity? In anger bring down the peoples, God.

8You have numbered my wanderings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?

9Then my enemies will turn back on the day I call; this I know, that God is for me.

10In God I praise his word; in Yahweh I praise his word.

11In God I have trusted; I will not fear what man can do to me.

12O God, your vows are upon me; I will pay thank offerings to you.

13For you have saved my soul from death; will you not preserve my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living.
