Psalm 139

1Yahweh, you have searched me and you know me.

2You know my sitting and my rising. You discern my thought from far away.

3You encompass my path and my lying down, and understand all my ways.

4For there is no word on my tongue—behold, Yahweh, you know it all.

5You enclosed me behind and before, and set your hand upon me.

6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is exalted—I cannot attain it.

7Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

8If I ascend to heaven, there you are; if I lie down in Sheol, behold, you are there.

9If I take the wings of dawn and settle at the far end of the sea,

10Even there your hand will guide me, and your right hand will grasp me.

11I say, “Surely darkness will cover me, and night will be light around me.”

12Even darkness is not dark to you, and the night shines like the day; your darkness like light.

13For you formed my inmost parts; you knit me in my mother's womb.

14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are your works, and my soul knows it exceedingly.

15My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in secret, intricately embroidered in the depths of the earth.

16Your eyes saw my unformed substance, and in your book all of them were written, the days formed for me when not one among them yet existed.

17How precious your thoughts are to me, O God! How vast their sum!

18If I counted them, they would outnumber the sand; when I awake, I am still with you.

19If only you would slay the wicked, O God—depart from me, you men of blood!

20Those who speak against you with wicked schemes, your enemies, bear your name falsely.

21Do I not hate your enemies, Yahweh? Do I not loathe those who rise against you?

22With complete hatred I hate them; they have become my enemies.

23God, search me and know my heart; examine me and know my thoughts.

24See if there is a wicked way in me, and guide me in the everlasting way.
