Psalm 89
I will sing of Yahweh’s lovingkindnesses forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known to generation and generation.
For I have said, "Steadfast love shall be built up forever; you established the heavens; your faithfulness is in them."
I have cut a covenant with my elect; I have sworn to David my servant.
I will set your offspring forever and build your throne for generation after generation. Selah.
The heavens will praise your wonders, Yahweh; your faithfulness too in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the skies compares to Yahweh? Who among the sons of gods is like Yahweh?
God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, and dreaded above all those around him.
Yahweh, God of Hosts, who is mighty like you, O Yah? Your faithfulness surrounds you.
You rule the swelling of the sea; when its waves rise, you calm them.
You crushed Rahab like the slain; with your mighty arm you scattered your enemies.
The heavens belong to you, even the earth to you; the world and everything in it—you established them.
You created north and south; Tabor and Hermon shout for joy in your name.
You have an arm of power; your hand is strong, your right hand lifted high.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and truth go before you.
Blessed are the people who know the shout of joy; they walk in the light of your face, Yahweh.
In your name they rejoice all day, and in your righteousness they are exalted.
For you are the splendor of their might, and in your delight you exalt our horn.
For Yahweh is our shield, and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
Then you spoke in a vision to your faithful ones and said, "I have appointed help upon a warrior; I have exalted a chosen youth from the people."
I have found David my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him.
With him my hand will be firm, and my arm will also strengthen him.
No enemy will exact from him, nor will a son of wickedness oppress him.
I will crush his adversaries before him and strike those who hate him.
My faithfulness and my steadfast love will be with him, and in my name his horn will be exalted.
I will set his hand on the sea, and his right hand on the rivers.
He will call to me: "You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation."
I will also appoint him my firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.
I will keep my favor for him forever, and my covenant will be faithful to him.
I will establish his seed forever, and his throne as the days of the heavens.
If his children abandon my law and do not walk in my judgments,
if they profane my statutes and do not keep my commandments
then I will punish their rebellion with the rod, and their iniquity with blows.
I will not withdraw my kindness entirely from him, nor will I deal falsely with my faithfulness.
I will not profane my covenant nor change what comes from my lips.
Once I have sworn by my holiness that I will not deceive David.
His offspring will last forever, and his throne like the sun before me.
Like the moon, it will stand firm forever, a faithful witness in the sky. Selah.
But you have rejected and abhorred; you have raged against your anointed.
You have repudiated your servant's covenant. You have desecrated his crown to the ground.
You have broken through all his walls; you have reduced his strongholds to ruin.
All who pass along the road plunder him; he has become a reproach to his neighbors.
You have lifted up the right hand of his adversaries. You have gladdened all his enemies.
You have also dulled the edge of his sword and have not upheld him in battle.
You have annulled his splendor and overthrown his throne to the ground.
You cut short the days of his youth. You covered him with shame. Selah.
How long, Yahweh? Will you conceal yourself forever? Will your fury burn like fire?
Remember how fleeting my life is! Why have you created all the sons of men in vain?
Who is the man who lives and does not see death, who rescues his soul from the grasp of Sheol? Selah.
Where are your former kindnesses, Lord, which you swore to David in your faithfulness?
Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servants that I bear in my bosom from all the many peoples.
With which your enemies have reviled you, Yahweh, with which they have reviled the footsteps of your anointed.
Blessed be Yahweh forever. Amen and Amen.
