Psalm 33

1Shout for joy in Yahweh, righteous ones! Praise befits the upright.

2Praise Yahweh with the harp; with the ten-stringed psaltery sing praises to him.

3Sing a new song to him; play it well with a shout of joy.

4For Yahweh's word is upright, and all his works are faithful.

5He loves righteousness and judgment. Yahweh's favor fills the earth.

6The heavens were made by the word of Yahweh, all their host by the breath of his mouth.

7He heaps up the waters of the sea like a mound; he stores the depths in treasuries.

8Let all the earth dread Yahweh; let all who dwell in the world tremble before him.

9For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood.

10Yahweh frustrates the counsel of the nations; he thwarts the thoughts of the peoples.

11Yahweh's counsel endures forever, the thoughts of his heart generation after generation.

12Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people he chose for his inheritance.

13Yahweh looks down from heaven; he sees all the sons of men.

14From his dwelling place he beholds all the earth's inhabitants.

15He shapes their hearts alike; he discerns all their deeds.

16No king is saved by a vast army; a mighty man is not delivered by great strength.

17A horse is delusive for deliverance, nor does the abundance of its strength deliver.

18Behold, Yahweh's eye is toward those who fear him, toward those who hope in his lovingkindness.

19to deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.

20Our soul waits for Yahweh; he is our help and our shield.

21For our heart rejoices in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

22Let your favor be upon us, Yahweh, just as we hope in you.
