Psalm 22
My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Far from my salvation, from the words of my roaring.
My God, I call by day, but you do not answer; and by night, but no silence for me.
Yet you are holy, you who dwell in Israel's praises.
Our fathers trusted in you; they trusted, and you rescued them.
They cried to you and were delivered; they trusted in you and were not put to shame.
But I am a worm and not a man, a reproach of men and despised by the people.
All who see me mock me, thrusting out their lips and shaking their heads.
Commit to Yahweh; let him deliver him, let him rescue him, since he delights in him.
Yet you drew me from the womb; you made me secure upon my mother's breasts.
I was cast upon you from the womb; from my mother's belly, you are my God.
Do not be far from me, for distress is near; there is no helper.
Many bulls surround me; Bashan's mighty bulls encircle me.
They open their mouths against me like a tearing and roaring lion.
I am spilled like water, and all my bones are disjointed; my heart is like wax melting in the midst of my bowels.
My strength is parched like a potsherd, and my tongue clings to my palate; you lay me in the dust of death.
For dogs have surrounded me; the assembly of evildoers has encircled me—like a lion they are at my hands and my feet.
I can number all my bones. They gaze upon me and stare.
They divide my garments among them and cast lots upon my clothing.
But you, Yahweh, do not stay far from my strength; hurry to my aid.
Rescue my life from the sword, my only one from the dog's grasp.
Save me from the lion's mouth, from the horns of the wild oxen—you have answered me.
I will declare your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you.
You who fear Yahweh, praise him! All offspring of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all offspring of Israel!
For he did not scorn or detest the suffering of the afflicted, nor hide his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard.
My praise comes from you in the great assembly; I will fulfill my vows before those who fear him.
The meek will eat and be satisfied; those who seek Yahweh will praise him; your hearts will live forever.
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to Yahweh, and all the families of the nations will bow down before you.
For the kingdom belongs to Yahweh, and he rules over the nations.
All the fat ones of the earth eat and bow down before him; all who go down to the dust kneel before him, and none can keep his soul alive.
Offspring will serve him; it will be counted to the Lord for a generation.
They will come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn, for he has done it.
