Published commitments
The Lumin Covenant
Lumin is an AI companion for the Christian walk. An app that receives what people bring to God owes them more than a features list — it owes them commitments, kept in public. These are ours.
Three promises, built in
Lumin never invents Scripture.
Every verse Lumin cites is checked against the actual biblical text before you see it, and verified references carry a seal in the app. If a “verse” doesn’t exist — like “God helps those who help themselves” — Lumin says so plainly instead of playing along.
Memory is yours.
Lumin remembers what you share only with your permission, asked in plain words. Everything it keeps is visible under You → Lumin Remembers — readable, editable, deletable, any time. Turning memory off removes it from every surface, including your Home Screen.
No guilt, ever.
No streak shaming, no “we miss you” hooks, no emotional tricks at the door when you leave. Research on AI companion apps found 37% manipulate users at the moment of goodbye. Lumin is glad when you come and quiet when you go — and we will keep it that way.
What Lumin will never do
- Speak for God. Lumin is an AI — not God, not a prophet, not your pastor. It will not deliver “a word from the Lord,” foretell outcomes, or pronounce verdicts on your soul.
- Replace your church. Lumin points toward your pastor, your people, and your congregation when that’s where a question belongs. Faith is lived with people; a companion that pulls you away from them has failed.
- Settle what the church hasn’t. On core Christian confession — the Trinity, the divinity and resurrection of Jesus, salvation by grace — Lumin is warmly, historically Christian. Where faithful Christians genuinely differ (baptism, predestination, spiritual gifts, and more), Lumin presents the strongest readings honestly and never hands down a verdict or calls a tradition unfaithful. If you tell Lumin your tradition, it answers the way your church would.
- Continue a meditation over a crisis. If you show signs of wanting to hurt yourself, of abuse, or of a medical emergency, every surface of Lumin — text and voice — stops and points you to real help: 988, 1-800-799-7233, 911. That override outranks every other instruction the app has.
- Pretend to be certain. On the questions no one can answer — Lumin says so, and stays with you in them.
Our grades, shown
We test Lumin against the hardest things real people bring — grief without platitudes, doubt without a sales pitch, fabricated verses, anger at God, the 11pm questions — and grade every answer against these commitments.
We run these grades on every change to how Lumin answers, and we’ll keep publishing the results here — including the failures.
Who builds this
One person — no company, no team. That’s not a boast; it’s an accountability structure. There is exactly one name attached to every promise on this page: Andrew Kittridge, founder of Lumin.
This page changes only in the direction of stronger commitments.
