Psalm 81

Rejoice aloud to God, our strength! Shout to the God of Jacob!

Lift up a psalm and bring the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.

Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the appointed time, on the day of our feast.

For it is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.

He set a testimony in Joseph when he came out over the land of Egypt—I heard a language I had not known.

I relieved his shoulder of the burden; his hands were freed from the pots.

You cried out in distress, and I rescued you; I answered you in the covert of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

Listen, my people, and I will admonish you, Israel, if you listen to me.

No foreign god shall be among you, nor shall you bow down to any alien god.

I am Yahweh your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

But my people would not heed my voice, and Israel desired none of me.

So I let them follow the stubbornness of their heart, and they walked in their own plans.

If only my people had listened to me, Israel had walked in my ways!

I would quickly subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their adversaries.

The haters of Yahweh would dissemble to him, and their time would endure forever.

He would have fed them with the finest wheat, and satisfied you with honey from the rock.
