What does the Bible say about loneliness?
Loneliness is one of the oldest human aches, and Scripture meets it with a steady promise: you are not alone, because God himself is with you and does not leave. The Bible answers isolation less with a crowd than with a Presence that never departs.
Key verses
- Deuteronomy 31:6 God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
- Hebrews 13:5 He has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
- Psalm 25:16 A prayer: turn to me and be gracious, for I am lonely and afflicted.
- Matthew 28:20 Jesus promises, "I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Scripture validates the ache — even the psalmists pray "I am lonely" — while insisting it is never the whole truth. God’s promise is not that you’ll always feel his presence, but that he is genuinely, unfailingly there, closer than the loneliness itself.
