Genesis 7

1Yahweh said to Noah, "Come into the ark—you and all your house—for I have seen you righteous before me in this generation."

2Take seven pairs of every clean beast for yourself, male and female, and two of beasts that are not clean, male and female.

3Also for the birds of the sky, seven males and seven females, to keep offspring alive upon the surface of all the earth.

4For in seven more days I will send rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights, and every living thing that I have made I will blot out from the face of the ground.

5Noah did all that Yahweh commanded him.

6Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters were upon the earth.

7Noah entered the ark with his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives because of the waters of the flood.

8Clean beasts, beasts that are not clean, birds, and everything that creeps on the ground.

9Two by two they came to Noah, to the ark—male and female—as God had commanded Noah.

10After seven days, the waters of the flood were upon the earth.

11In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, that day every spring of the great deep broke open, and the windows of the heavens opened.

12The rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.

13On that very day Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth—Noah's sons—and Noah's wife and the three wives of his sons with them entered the ark.

14They, and every living creature of its kind, every beast of their kind, every creeping thing that moves on the earth of its kind, and every flying bird of its kind—every bird of every sort.

15Two by two of all flesh with the breath of life in it came to Noah into the ark.

16Those entering, male and female from all flesh, went in as God had commanded him, and Yahweh shut it behind him.

17The flood was on the earth for forty days, and the waters grew and lifted the ark, which rose above the earth.

18The waters grew mighty and multiplied exceedingly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the waters.

19The waters grew exceedingly mighty on the earth, and all the lofty mountains under the whole heaven were covered.

20The waters prevailed fifteen cubits above, and the mountains were covered.

21All flesh that moved on the earth died: birds, livestock, wild animals, every swarming creature that swarms on the earth, and all humankind.

22All that had the breath of the spirit of life in their nostrils, from all that was on dry land, died.

23He wiped out every living thing on the face of the ground, from humankind to livestock, creeping creatures, and birds of the sky, and they were wiped from the earth. Only Noah remained, and those with him in the ark.

24The waters prevailed over the earth one hundred fifty days.
