Genesis 13
Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev—he himself, his wife, all that belonged to him, and Lot with him.
Abram was very wealthy in livestock, silver, and gold.
He journeyed from the Negev along his previous travels to Bethel, to the place where his tent had been there at first, between Bethel and Ai.
to the place of the altar that he had made there before; there Abram called on the name of Yahweh.
Lot, who traveled with Abram, also had flocks, herds, and tents.
The land could not support them dwelling together, for their possessions were so numerous that they could not dwell together.
There was strife between the shepherds of Abram's livestock and the shepherds of Lot's livestock, and the Canaanites and Perizzites were dwelling in the land at that time.
Abram said to Lot, "Please, let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brothers."
Isn't all the land before you? Please part from me: if you go left, then I will turn right; or if you go right, then I will turn left.
Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the Jordan plain, for all of it was watered before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt as you come to Zoar.
Lot chose the whole Jordan plain for himself. Lot set out eastward, and they parted, each man from his brother.
Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent as far as Sodom.
The men of Sodom were wicked and sinners against Yahweh exceedingly.
Yahweh said to Abram, after Lot parted from him, “Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward.”
For all the land you see, I will give it to you and to your offspring forever.
I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so if a man can count the dust of the earth, then your offspring will also be numbered.
Rise, walk about the land in its length and width; for I will give it to you.
Abram pitched his tent, came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar to Yahweh there.
