Genesis 14

1It came about in the days of Amraphel, king of Shinar, Arioch, king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, and Tidal, king of nations.

2They waged war against Bera, king of Sodom, and Birsha, king of Gomorrah, Shinab, king of Admah, Shemeber, king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.

3All these banded together in the Valley of Siddim, which is the Salt Sea.

4They served Chedorlaomer twelve years and rebelled in the thirteenth year.

5In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer came with the kings who were with him, and they beat the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh Kiriathaim.

6and the Horites in their Mount Seir as far as El-paran, which lies beside the wilderness.

7They turned back and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and struck all the territory of the Amalekites, as well as the Amorites living in Hazezon-tamar.

8The king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela—which is Zoar—went out and drew up for battle against them in the Valley of Siddim.

9against Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, Tidal, king of Goiim, Amraphel, king of Shinar, and Arioch, king of Ellasar—four kings against the five.

10The Valley of Siddim was full of slime pits; the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and fell there, and those who remained fled to the mountain.

11They took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their provisions, and departed.

12They took Lot, son of Abram's brother who lived in Sodom, and his possessions, and departed.

13A fugitive came and told Abram the Hebrew who was dwelling at the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and they were Abram's covenant partners.

14When Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he led out his trained men born in his house, three hundred eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.

15He divided his forces against them by night—he and his servants—struck them, and pursued them to Hobah, which is on the left of Damascus.

16He brought back all the possessions, and also brought back his brother Lot with his possessions, along with the women and the people.

17The king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, at Shaveh Valley, the King's Valley.

18Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine; he was priest of God Most High.

19He blessed him and said, "Blessed is Abram by God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth."

20Blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand, and he gave him a tenth of everything.

21The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, and take the possessions for yourself.”

22Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have lifted my hand to Yahweh, God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,

23not even a thread or a sandal strap, nor will I take anything that is yours, lest you say, "I have enriched Abram."

24Except for me, only what the young men have eaten and the portion of the men who went with me—Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre—let them take their portion.
