Isaiah 60

1Arise, shine, for your light has come, and Yahweh's glory has risen upon you.

2For see, darkness will cover the earth, and gloom the nations; but Yahweh will arise upon you, and his glory will appear upon you.

3Nations will come to your light, and kings to the glow of your rising.

4Lift your eyes all around and see: all of them have gathered together and come to you; your sons will come from afar, and your daughters will be nursed at your side.

5Then you will see and glow, and your heart will tremble and swell because the abundance of the sea will turn to you, the wealth of the nations will come to you.

6An abundance of camels will cover you, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all from Sheba will come, carrying gold and frankincense, proclaiming the praises of Yahweh.

7All the flocks of Kedar will gather to you, the rams of Nebaioth will serve you; they will come up acceptably on my altar, and I will beautify the house of my splendor.

8Who are these flying like a cloud, and like doves to their windows?

9Surely the islands await me eagerly, and Tarshish ships first to carry your sons from afar with their silver and their gold, for the name of Yahweh your God and the Holy One of Israel, because he has glorified you.

10Sons of strangers will build your walls, and their kings will serve you, for in my wrath I struck you, but in my favor I have shown you mercy.

11Your gates shall lie open continually, day and night; they shall not be shut, so the riches of the nations may be brought to you, their kings led.

12For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you will perish, and the nations will be utterly desolated.

13The glory of Lebanon will come to you—fir, pine, and box together—to beautify the place of my sanctuary, and I will glorify the place of my feet.

14The sons of those who afflicted you will come to you bowing low, and all who despised you will prostrate themselves at the soles of your feet, and they will call you Yahweh's city, Zion of Israel's Holy One.

15Instead of your being forsaken and hated, with no one passing through you, I will make you eternal majesty, a joy from generation to generation.

16You will suckle the milk of nations and the breasts of kings, and you will know that I, Yahweh, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

17I will bring gold instead of bronze, silver instead of iron, bronze instead of wood, and iron instead of stones; I will also make your officers peace, and your taskmasters righteousness.

18No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor destruction or ruin within your borders; you will call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.

19No longer will the sun be your light by day, nor the moon shine its brightness for you; Yahweh will be an everlasting light for you, and your God your glory.

20Your sun will no longer set, nor will your moon withdraw; for Yahweh will be your eternal light, and the days of your mourning will be completed.

21Your people will all be righteous; they will possess the land forever, the shoot I planted, the work my hands produced, so that I may be glorified.

22The least will become a thousand, and the small a mighty nation; I, Yahweh, will hasten it in its time.
