Isaiah 32

1Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule in justice.

2A man shall be as a hiding place from the wind and a shelter from the tempest, as streams of water in a dry place, as the shade of a great rock in a weary land.

3The eyes of seers will not dim, and the ears of hearers will give heed.

4Hasty hearts will understand knowledge, and stammerers' tongues will hasten to speak clearly.

5No longer will a fool be called noble, nor a churl said to be bountiful.

6For the fool will speak folly, and his heart will contrive evil, to practice hypocrisy and declare error against Yahweh, to empty the soul of the hungry and deprive the thirsty of drink.

7The scoundrel's devices are evil. He devises wicked schemes to ruin the humble and afflicted with false words, even when the poor speaks justly.

8But the noble one plans noble things, and by noble things he stands.

9Rise up, women at ease; hear my voice, confident daughters; give ear to my words.

10You who are secure will tremble in days more than a year, for the vintage will cease; the gathering will not arrive.

11Tremble, you who are at ease; be troubled, you who are confident; strip, make bare, and gird upon your loins.

12Beat your breasts for the delightful fields, for the fruit-bearing vine.

13Thorns and briers will come up on the land of my people; yes, on all the houses of joy in the exultant city.

14For the palace lies forsaken, the crowded city deserted; stronghold and watchtower become dens forever, a delight for wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks.

15Until spirit from on high is poured upon us, the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is esteemed a forest.

16Justice will dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness will abide in the fruitful field.

17Righteousness’ work will be peace, and righteousness’ service quietness and security forever.

18My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.

19Hail will come down upon the forest, and the city will be brought low in the low place.

20Blessed are you who sow by all waters, who release the feet of the ox and the donkey.
