Lumin Translation

Isaiah 58

Shout aloud; do not hold back. Lift your voice like a trumpet, and proclaim to my people their rebellion, to the house of Jacob their sins.

Yet day by day they seek me and delight in knowing my ways, like a nation that performed righteousness and never forsook the justice of their God—they question me about righteous judgments and delight in drawing near to God.

Why have we fasted and you do not see? Why have we afflicted our soul and you do not know? Behold, in the day of your fast you find delight, and exact all your labors.

Behold, you fast to quarrel and contend, and to strike with a wicked fist; you do not fast today to make your voice heard on high.

Is this the fast I choose—a day for a person to humble his soul? Is it to bow his head like a bulrush, spreading sackcloth and ashes beneath him? Will you call this a fast, a day pleasing to Yahweh?

Is not this the fast I choose: to release the fetters of wickedness, to shake loose the cords of the yoke, to send the crushed free, and you break every yoke?

Isn't it to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the afflicted cast out into your house? When you see the naked, to clothe him, and not disregard your own kin?

Then your light will break forth like the dawn, your healing will spring up quickly, your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of Yahweh will gather you behind.

Then you will call, and Yahweh will answer; you will cry out, and he will say, "Here I am." If you remove from your midst the yoke, the pointing finger, and words of evil,

If you pour out your soul to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul, your light will rise in darkness, and your gloom will be like noonday.

Yahweh will guide you continually, satisfy your soul in parched places, and strengthen your bones; and you will be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.

Those from you will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will raise up the foundations of generation after generation; and they will call you repairer of the breach, restorer of paths to dwell in.

If you turn your foot from the Sabbath, from pursuing your pleasures on my holy day, call the Sabbath a delight and Yahweh's holy day honorable, and honor it, not following your own ways, not seeking your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words,

Then you will delight yourself in Yahweh, and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth, and I will feed you the inheritance of Jacob your father, for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken.
