Isaiah 6

1In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and raised high, his train filling the temple.

2Seraphim stood above him, each with six wings; he covered his face with two, his feet with two, and flew with two.

3One called to another and said, "Holy, holy, holy is Yahweh of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory."

4The bases of the thresholds shook at the voice of the one calling, and the house was filled with smoke.

5I said, "Woe to me! For I am undone, because I am a man with unclean lips and live among a people with unclean lips—for my eyes have seen the King, Yahweh of hosts."

6One of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.

7He touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips, and your iniquity departs, and your sin is atoned for."

8I heard my Lord's voice saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here I am. Send me."

9He said, "Go and say to this people, 'Hear diligently, but do not understand; see diligently, but do not perceive.'"

10Fatten this people's heart, dull their ears, and blind their eyes, lest they see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, turn back, and be healed.

11I said, "How long, Lord?" He answered, "Until cities lie desolate without inhabitant, houses without man, and the land becomes desolate, a desolation."

12And Yahweh has sent people far away, and forsaken places abound in the midst of the land.

13Yet a tenth will remain in it, returning only to be consumed—like a terebinth and an oak whose stump endures when they are felled; the holy seed is its stump.
