Genesis 8

1God remembered Noah and all the living creatures and all the beasts that were with him in the ark, and God caused a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided.

2The springs of the deep and the windows of the heavens were shut, and the rain from the heavens was held back.

3The waters returned from off the earth, going and returning, and the waters decreased after the end of a hundred and fifty days.

4The ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

5The waters continued diminishing until the tenth month; on the first day of the tenth month, the mountaintops appeared.

6At the end of forty days Noah opened the window of the ark that he had made.

7He sent out the raven, and it kept going out and returning until the waters dried up from the earth.

8He sent the dove out from himself to see if the waters had subsided from the surface of the ground.

9The dove found no rest for her foot, so she returned to him into the ark, for waters covered the surface of the whole earth. Then he extended his hand, took her, and brought her to himself into the ark.

10He waited yet another seven days, and again sent the dove out from the ark.

11The dove came to him toward evening, and look, a freshly plucked olive leaf was in her mouth, so Noah knew the waters had subsided from the earth.

12He waited another seven days and sent out the dove, but she did not return to him anymore.

13In the six hundred first year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the waters had dried up from the earth. Noah removed the ark's covering and looked, and there the surface of the ground was dry.

14On the twenty-seventh day of the second month, the earth was dry.

15God spoke to Noah, saying,

16Come out of the ark—you, your wife, your sons, and your sons' wives with you.

17Bring out with you every living creature that is with you of all flesh—the birds, the livestock, and every creeping thing that moves on the earth—so that they swarm in the earth, be fruitful, and multiply on the earth.

18Noah went out with his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives.

19Every living creature, every creeping thing, every bird, and everything that moves on the earth went out from the ark according to their kinds.

20Noah built an altar to Yahweh, took from every clean beast and every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

21Yahweh smelled the soothing fragrance, and Yahweh said in his heart, "I will not again curse the ground for humanity's sake, because the inclination of humanity's heart is evil from its youth; nor will I again strike every living creature, as I have done."

22Sowing and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will not cease during all the days of the earth.
