Leviticus 12

1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

2Speak to the children of Israel, saying, "When a woman conceives and bears a son, she shall be unclean seven days; as during the days of the flow of her infirmity she shall be unclean."

3On the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

4She shall remain in the blood of her purification for thirty-three days; she shall not touch any holy thing, nor enter the sanctuary, until the days of her purification are completed.

5But if she bears a female, she shall be unclean two weeks, as during her menstruation, and she shall remain in the blood of purification sixty-six days.

6When the days of her purification are completed for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring to the priest at the entrance of the tent of meeting a year-old lamb for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering.

7He shall present it before Yahweh and atone for her, and she shall be purified from the source of her blood. This is the law for the one giving birth, whether for a male or for a female.

8But if she cannot afford a lamb, she shall bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons—one for a burnt offering and one for a sin offering—and the priest shall make atonement for her, and she shall be clean.
