Job 5

Job 4Job 6

Call now; is there one who answers you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?

For anger kills the fool, and jealousy kills the simple.

I saw a fool taking root, and suddenly I cursed his dwelling.

His children are removed from safety, crushed at the gate, with none to deliver them.

whose harvest the hungry devour and seize even from the thorns, while robbers gulp down their wealth.

For affliction does not come from the dust, nor does trouble grow from the ground.

For man is born to trouble, as the sons of sparks fly upward.

But as for me, I would seek God and lay my cause before God.

who accomplishes great things beyond all search, wonders without number;

who gives rain on the earth and sends waters on the fields.

He sets the lowly on high and exalts those who mourn to safety.

He thwarts the crafty schemes so their hands achieve no success.

He ensnares the wise in their cunning, and the schemes of the perverse rush headlong.

By day they meet darkness, and like night they grope at midday.

He saves the poor from the sword of their mouths and from the hand of the mighty.

There is hope for the needy, and injustice shuts her mouth.

See, blessed is the man whom God disciplines; do not reject the discipline of the Almighty.

For it is he who hurts and bandages; he crushes, and his hands heal.

He will rescue you from six calamities; in seven no harm will reach you.

In famine he will deliver you from death, and in war from the grasp of the sword.

You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, nor will you fear destruction when it comes.

You will laugh at ruin and famine, nor fear the beasts of the earth.

For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field will make peace with you.

You will know that your tent is at peace. You will visit your fold and find nothing missing.

You will know that your seed will abound and your offspring be like the grass of the earth.

You will come to the grave in full vigor, like a shock of grain ascends in its season.

See, we have examined this, and thus it is. Hear it, and know it for yourself.
