Job 17

Job 16Job 18

My spirit is bound up, my days are extinguished, the graves are mine.

If mockers are not with me, my eye dwells amid their provocations.

Please appoint surety for me with yourself; who is he who will strike hands with me?

Because you have hidden their heart from understanding, you will not exalt them.

Whoever betrays his friends for a share, the eyes of his children will grow dim.

He has made me a byword to the peoples, and I will be a timbrel before their faces.

My eye has dimmed from grief, and all my members are like a shadow.

Upright people are appalled at this, and the innocent rouses himself against the hypocrite.

The righteous holds fast to his way, and one with clean hands grows stronger.

However, all of you return and come, please; I will not find a wise man among you.

My days have passed, my plans have been torn away, even the thoughts of my heart.

They turn night into day: light stands near in the face of darkness.

If I hope for Sheol as my house, I have spread my couch in the darkness.

I call to corruption, "You are my father," and to the worm, "My mother and sister."

Where then is my hope? Who will behold my hope?

Will they go down to the bars of Sheol, or rest together upon the dust?
