Job 33

1But now, Job, please hear my words and listen to all of them.

2See, please, I have opened my mouth. My tongue has spoken in my mouth.

3My words are the uprightness of my heart, and my lips utter pure knowledge.

4God's Spirit made me, and the breath of the Almighty keeps me alive.

5If you can answer me, arrange your speech before me, and present yourself.

6See, I am like you before God; I too am formed from clay.

7Behold, my terror will not terrify you, nor will my hand be heavy upon you.

8Indeed, you have spoken in my ears, and I have heard the voice of your words.

9I am pure, without transgression. I am innocent, and no iniquity is in me.

10Look, he finds occasions against me; he considers me his enemy.

11He sets my feet in the stocks; he watches all my paths.

12See, you are not right in this. I will answer you, for God is greater than man.

13Why do you contend against him, for he does not answer any of his matters?

14For God speaks once, even twice, but man does not heed it.

15In a dream, in a vision of night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumbers upon the bed.

16Then he opens people's ears and seals their instruction.

17to turn a man from his deed and hide pride from him.

18He restrains his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

19He is chastened with pain on his bed, and with strong strife in the multitude of his bones.

20His life loathes bread, and his soul choice delicacies.

21His flesh wastes away out of sight, and his bones—which had not been seen—protrude.

22His soul approaches the pit, and his life to the destroyers.

23If there is an angel for him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to declare to a man his uprightness.

24He shows him grace and says, “Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom.”

25His flesh becomes fresher than a youth's; he goes back to the days of his youth.

26He prays to God, who accepts him and shows him his face with joy, and restores his righteousness to that man.

27He looks upon men and says, "I have sinned, and perverted what was right, and it did not profit me."

28He has rescued my soul and his from passing into the pit, and my life and his will see the light.

29Behold, God does all these things twice, three times with a man.

30to return his soul from the pit, to be illuminated with the light of the living.

31Pay attention, Job; listen to me, be silent, and I will speak.

32If you have words, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify you.

33If not, you listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.
