Job 42

1Job answered Yahweh and said,

2You know, I know that you are able to do everything, and no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

3Who is this who darkens counsel without knowledge? Therefore I declared what I did not understand—wonders beyond me, which I did not know.

4Hear, please, and I will speak; I will ask you, and you make known to me.

5By the hearing ear I had heard you, but now my eye sees you.

6So I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.

7After Yahweh spoke these words to Job, Yahweh said to Eliphaz the Temanite, "My anger burns against you and your two friends, because you have not spoken rightly about me, as my servant Job has."

8Now take seven bulls and seven rams for yourselves, go to my servant Job, and offer a burnt offering on your behalf; my servant Job will pray for you, for I will accept him so as not to treat you according to your folly—since you have not spoken rightly about me, as my servant Job has.

9Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as Yahweh had spoken to them, and Yahweh accepted Job.

10Yahweh restored Job's fortunes when he prayed for his friends, and Yahweh doubled everything that belonged to Job.

11All his brothers, all his sisters, and all who had known him before came to him, ate bread with him in his house, commiserated with him, and comforted him over all the adversity Yahweh had brought upon him; each gave him one piece of money, and each one gold ring.

12Yahweh blessed the end of Job more than his beginning. He possessed fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

13He had seven sons and three daughters.

14He named the first Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch.

15No women were found in all the land as beautiful as Job's daughters, and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.

16Job lived one hundred forty years after this, and saw his sons and his sons' sons, four generations.

17Job died an old man, satisfied with his days.
