Job 40

Job 39Job 41

Moreover Yahweh answered Job,

Will anyone who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let anyone who disputes with God answer!

Then Job answered Yahweh and said,

I am insignificant—what can I say to you? I put my hand over my mouth.

I have spoken once, but will not reply; even twice, but will add no more.

Then Yahweh answered Job from the whirlwind.

Prepare yourself now like a man; I will question you, and you answer me.

Will you even discredit my justice? Will you declare me guilty so you can be right?

Do you have an arm like God's? Or can you thunder with a voice like his?

Adorn yourself now with majesty and splendor; clothe yourself in glory and dignity.

Pour out your wrath's full fury; gaze on every proud one and humble him.

Gaze on everyone arrogant and bring him low; trample the wicked right where they stand.

Conceal them together in the dust; bind their faces in secret.

Then I too will concede that your own right hand can deliver you.

Look at behemoth, whom I made along with you; he eats grass like an ox.

Behold his strength in his thighs; his force, in the muscles of his belly.

He stiffens his tail like a cedar; the tendons of his thighs are intertwined.

His bones are like bronze tubes; his limbs like iron bars.

He is the foremost of God's ways. His maker causes his sword to approach him.

The mountains yield him food, where all the beasts of the field frolic.

He rests under lotus trees, in the shelter of reeds and the swamp.

Lotuses shade him with their cover, while brook willows surround him.

If a river surges, he does not hasten; he remains confident, even as the Jordan rises to his mouth.

Can anyone seize him while he watches, or thrust a snare through his nostrils?
