Job 3

1After this Job opened his mouth and cursed his day.

2Job replied and said.

3Let the day I was born perish, and the night that said, "A man is conceived."

4Let that day be darkness; let not God seek it from above, nor let light shine upon it.

5Let darkness and the shadow of death redeem it utterly; let a cloud dwell over it; let the blackeners of day terrify it.

6Let darkness seize that night; let it not rejoice among the days of the year, nor come into the number of the months.

7Behold, let that night be desolate; let no joyful shout come into it.

8Let those who curse the day curse it, those ready to rouse Leviathan.

9Let the stars of its twilight grow dark; let it await light, but find none, nor see the eyelids of the dawn.

10because it did not close the doors of my womb or conceal sorrow from my eyes.

11Why did I not die from the womb? Why did I not expire when I came out from the belly?

12Why did the knees meet me? Why the breasts, that I should suck?

13For now I would have lain down quietly. I would have slept; then I would have rested.

14with kings and earth's counselors who built desolate places for themselves

15or with princes having gold, who filled their houses with silver.

16Or I had not been like a hidden miscarriage, like infants who never saw light.

17There the wicked cease from turmoil, and there the weary of strength rest.

18The prisoners rest together; they do not hear the taskmaster's voice.

19The lesser and the greater are there; the slave is free from his lord.

20Why is light given to the sufferer, and life to the bitter soul?

21Who long for death, but it does not come, and dig for it more than for hidden treasures.

22who rejoice with joy and delight when they find the grave?

23To a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hemmed in.

24For my sighing comes before my bread, and my roarings pour out like water.

25For the dread I dreaded came upon me, and what I feared comes to me.

26I was not secure, nor quiet, nor at rest; trouble came.
