Job 39

1Do you know when the rock wild goats give birth? Do you watch when the hinds calve?

2Can you count the months they complete? Or do you know the time they bear?

3They crouch, deliver their young, and release their birth pangs.

4Their young become strong, they grow up in the field, they go out, and do not return to them.

5Who let the wild donkey go free? Who untied the bonds of the wild ass?

6whose home I have made the wilderness, and the salt land his dwelling places.

7He laughs at the city's tumult and does not hear the driver's shouts.

8He ranges the mountains for his pasture and searches after every green thing.

9Will a wild ox consent to serve you, or lodge beside your manger?

10Can you bind the wild ox in the furrow with his cord, or will he harrow the valleys after you?

11Will you trust him because his strength is great and leave your labor to him?

12Will you trust him to return your seed and bring it to your threshing floor?

13The goodly wings flap exultantly; but are they the pinions of the stork and ostrich?

14For she leaves her eggs on the ground and warms them in the dust.

15She forgets that a foot may crush them, or that a beast of the field may trample them.

16She hardens toward her young ones as if they were not hers; her labor is futile without fear.

17Because God has made her forget wisdom and has not given her understanding.

18When she rears up on high, she mocks the horse and his rider.

19Do you grant the horse might? Do you array his neck with thunder?

20Do you make him quiver like a locust? The splendor of his snorting is fearsome.

21He paws in the valley, exults in his strength, and goes out to meet the armed men.

22He scoffs at terror and is not frightened, nor does he retreat in the face of the sword.

23The quiver clatters against him, the gleaming spear and the lance.

24In trembling and rage he swallows the ground, nor does he believe it is the sound of the trumpet.

25When the trumpet blasts, he cries "Aha!" From afar he smells the battle, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

26Does the hawk soar by your understanding and spread its wings toward the south?

27Does the eagle rise high at your command and raise its nest?

28On the rock he dwells and lodges, on the crag of the rock and the stronghold.

29From there he searches out prey from afar; his eyes behold it from a distance.

30His young ones suck up blood, and where the slain are, there he is.
