Exodus 40

1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

2On the first day of the first month you shall erect the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.

3You shall set the ark of the testimony there, and cover the ark with the veil.

4You shall bring in the table and set it in order, bring in the lampstand, and light its lamps.

5You shall set the golden altar for incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the screen for the tabernacle entrance.

6You shall set the altar of burnt offering before the entrance of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.

7You shall set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it.

8You shall set the court all around it, and put the hanging of the gate of the court.

9You shall take the anointing oil, anoint the tabernacle and everything in it, consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it shall be holy.

10You shall anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its vessels, and consecrate the altar, and it shall be most holy.

11You shall anoint the laver and its base, and consecrate it.

12You shall bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent of meeting, and wash them with water.

13You shall clothe Aaron in the holy garments, anoint him, and consecrate him, that he may serve me as priest.

14You shall bring his sons near and put tunics on them.

15You shall anoint them as you anointed their father, and they shall serve as priests to me. Their anointing shall be to them an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.

16Moses did all that Yahweh commanded him, so he did.

17It was in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was established.

18Moses erected the tabernacle, positioned its sockets, set its boards, inserted its bars, and raised its pillars.

19He spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the tent's covering on it from above, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

20He took the testimony and put it into the ark, set the poles on the ark, and put the mercy seat on top of the ark.

21He carried the ark inside the tabernacle, set the hanging veil, and covered the ark of the testimony, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

22He set the table in the tent of meeting, on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil.

23He arranged the bread in order on it before Yahweh, as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

24He set the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting, opposite the table, on the south side of the tabernacle.

25He lit the lamps before Yahweh, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

26He placed the golden altar inside the tent of meeting before the curtain.

27He burned incense of sweet spices on it, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

28He placed the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.

29He placed the burnt offering altar at the entrance to the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the grain offering, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

30He set the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing.

31Moses, Aaron, and his sons washed their hands and their feet from it.

32When they entered the tent of meeting, and approached the altar, they washed, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

33He erected the courtyard around the tabernacle and the altar, and hung the curtain at the gate of the courtyard, so Moses finished the work.

34The cloud covered the tent of meeting, and Yahweh's glory filled the tabernacle.

35Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled over it and Yahweh's glory had filled the tabernacle.

36When the cloud lifted from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel set out on all their journeys.

37But if the cloud did not rise, they did not set out until the day of its rising.

38For the cloud of Yahweh was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.
