Exodus 6

1Yahweh said to Moses, "Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh, for with a mighty hand he will release them, and with a mighty hand he will drive them out of his land."

2God spoke to Moses and said to him, "I am Yahweh."

3I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name Yahweh I was not known to them.

4I have also confirmed my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings, where they sojourned.

5I have also heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, whom the Egyptians enslave, and I have remembered my covenant.

6Therefore say to Israel's sons, "I am Yahweh, and I will bring you out from under the Egyptians' burdens, deliver you from their bondage, and redeem you with an outstretched arm and great judgments."

7I will take you as my people, and I will be your God, and you will know that I am Yahweh your God who brings you out from under the burdens of Egypt.

8And I will bring you to the land that I lifted my hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and I will give it to you as a possession: I am Yahweh.

9Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel, but they did not listen to him because of distress of spirit and harsh bondage.

10Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

11Go speak to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, so that he lets the sons of Israel go from his land.

12Moses answered before Yahweh, saying, "Behold, the children of Israel have not listened to me; how will Pharaoh listen to me, I of uncircumcised lips?"

13Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron and charged them concerning the children of Israel and Pharaoh king of Egypt to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

14These are the heads of their fathers' houses: the sons of Reuben, Israel's firstborn—Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben.

15Simeon's sons were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul son of a Canaanite woman; these were Simeon's families.

16These are the names of Levi's sons by their generations: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari; the years of Levi's life were one hundred thirty-seven years.

17Gershon's sons: Libni and Shimei, by their families.

18The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, and the years of Kohath's life were one hundred thirty-three years.

19Merari's sons were Mahli and Mushi; these were the families of the Levites according to their generations.

20Amram took Jochebed, his father's sister, as his wife, and she bore Aaron and Moses to him. Amram lived 137 years.

21Izhar’s sons were Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri.

22Uzziel's sons: Mishael, Elzaphan, and Zithri.

23Aaron took Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, as his wife, and she bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

24Korah's sons: Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph; these are the Korahite families.

25Eleazar, Aaron's son, took one of Putiel's daughters as his wife, and she bore Phinehas to him. These are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.

26These are Aaron and Moses, to whom Yahweh said, "Lead out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their hosts."

27These are the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt to bring Israel's sons out from Egypt; that is Moses and Aaron.

28It took place on the day Yahweh spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt.

29Yahweh spoke to Moses: "I am Yahweh. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt everything that I tell you."

30Moses said before Yahweh, "See, my lips are uncircumcised—how will Pharaoh listen to me?"
