Deuteronomy 18
The priests, the Levites—all the tribe of Levi—shall have no share or inheritance alongside Israel; they shall eat Yahweh's fire offerings and his inheritance.
They shall have no inheritance among their brothers; Yahweh himself is their inheritance, as he has spoken to them.
This shall be the priests' right from the people, from those who offer the sacrifice, whether ox or sheep; they shall give the priest the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the maw.
You shall give him the first of your grain, your wine, and your oil, and the first of the fleece of your flock.
For Yahweh your God has chosen him from all your tribes to stand and serve in the name of Yahweh—he and his sons always.
And if a Levite comes from one of your gates out of all Israel, where he sojourns, and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place Yahweh chooses;
He shall minister in the name of Yahweh his God, like all his brothers the Levites who stand there before Yahweh.
They shall eat equal portions, apart from whatever comes from selling his patrimony.
When you come into the land that Yahweh your God is giving you, do not learn to do like the abominations of those nations.
No one shall be found among you who passes his son or his daughter through fire, a diviner, one who practices divination, an enchanter, a soothsayer, or a sorcerer.
or a charmer, an enchanter, or one who asks a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or one who inquires of the dead.
For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh, and because of these abominations Yahweh your God dispossesses them from before you.
You shall be blameless with Yahweh your God.
For these nations that you will dispossess give heed to enchanters and diviners, but Yahweh your God has not appointed you to do so.
Yahweh your God will raise up for you a prophet from among you, one of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him.
Like all that you asked of Yahweh your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, "Do not let me hear again the voice of Yahweh my God, nor see this great fire any more, lest I die."
Yahweh said to me, "They have done well in what they have said."
I will raise up a prophet for them from among their brothers, like you, and I will put my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them everything that I command him.
It will be that whoever does not listen to my words which he speaks in my name, I myself will require it from him.
But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name—one I did not command him to speak—or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.
And if you say in your heart, "How will we know the word that Yahweh has not spoken?"
When a prophet speaks in the name of Yahweh, if the word does not happen or come about, that is the word Yahweh did not speak; the prophet spoke it presumptuously—you shall not fear him.
