Deuteronomy 25

1If a dispute arises between men and they come to court, and the judges judge them, then they will acquit the righteous and declare the wicked guilty.

2If the wicked deserves a beating, the judge shall stretch him out and beat him in his presence, according to his guilt, by number.

3He may beat him forty times but not exceed, lest he exceed and beat him beyond these with many strokes so your brother becomes despised in your eyes.

4Do not muzzle an ox while it threshes.

5When brothers live together and one of them dies without a son, the wife of the deceased shall not marry an outsider; her husband's brother shall come to her, take her to be his wife, and perform the husband's brother duty toward her.

6It shall be that the firstborn she bears will continue the name of his brother who is dead, so his name will not be blotted out from Israel.

7But if the man does not want to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall go up to the gate to the elders and say, "My husband's brother refuses to raise up a name for his brother in Israel; he will not consent to marry me."

8The elders of his city will call him and speak to him; if he stands and says, "I do not desire to take her,"

9His brother's wife shall come to him before the elders, remove his shoe from his foot, spit in his face, and answer and say, "Thus it shall be done to that man who will not build his brother's house."

10His name shall be called in Israel, the house of the one whose shoe was loosened.

11When men fight with each other, and one man's wife comes close to rescue her husband from his assailant's hand, she reaches out her hand and grabs his genitals.

12You shall cut her hand off; your eye shall not pity.

13You shall not have in your bag a large weight and a small one.

14You shall not keep a large ephah and a small ephah in your house.

15You shall have a complete and just weight, and a complete and just ephah, so that your days may be prolonged on the land that Yahweh your God gives you.

16For everyone who does these things, everyone who does injustice, is an abomination to Yahweh your God.

17Remember what Amalek did to you on the way when you came out of Egypt.

18how he encountered you on the road and struck those at your rear, all the feeble ones behind you, when you were faint and weary, and he did not fear God.

19When Yahweh your God gives you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land Yahweh your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess, blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; do not forget.
