Deuteronomy 6
This is the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which Yahweh your God commanded to teach you to do in the land where you are crossing over there to possess it.
so that you fear Yahweh your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments which I command you—you, your son, and your son's son—all the days of your life, and so that your days may be long.
Listen carefully, Israel, and take care to carry them out, so that you prosper and multiply greatly, as Yahweh the God of your fathers has spoken to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
Israel, Yahweh our God—Yahweh is one.
And you shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.
These words that I am commanding you today shall be on your heart.
Impress them on your children, and speak of them as you sit in your house, as you walk along the road, as you lie down, and as you rise.
You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be frontlets between your eyes.
Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
When Yahweh your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—to give you great and fine cities that you did not build,
Houses full of every good thing that you did not fill, hewn cisterns that you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant, and you will eat and be satisfied.
Be careful not to forget Yahweh, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.
Fear Yahweh your God; serve him, and swear by his name.
Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples who surround you.
For Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God, lest the anger of Yahweh your God burn against you and he destroy you from the face of the earth.
Do not test Yahweh your God as you tested him at Massah.
You shall carefully keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, his testimonies, and his statutes, which he commanded you.
You shall do what is right and good in Yahweh's sight, so that things go well for you and you enter to possess the good land that Yahweh swore to your fathers.
to expel all your enemies from your presence, as Yahweh has spoken.
When your son asks you in the future, saying, "What are the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgments that Yahweh our God commanded you?"
You will answer your son, "We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and Yahweh brought us out from Egypt with a strong hand."
Yahweh gave great and terrible signs and wonders in Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house, before our eyes.
And he brought us out from there to bring us in to give us the land he swore to our fathers.
Yahweh commanded us to carry out all these statutes, to fear Yahweh our God, for our good every day, that he might keep us alive, as he does today.
Righteousness will be ours if we are careful to do all this commandment before Yahweh our God, as he commanded us.
