Deuteronomy 3

1We turned and climbed the road to Bashan, and Og king of Bashan came out against us—he and all his people—to battle at Edrei.

2Yahweh said to me, "Do not fear him, for I have given him, all his people, and his land into your hand, and you will do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon."

3So Yahweh our God also gave Og king of Bashan into our hand, with all his people, and we struck him until no survivor was left to him.

4We captured all his cities at that time; there was no city we did not take from them: sixty cities, the entire region of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan.

5All these cities were surrounded by high walls with gates and bars, besides very many unwalled towns.

6We destroyed them utterly, as we had done to Sihon king of Heshbon, destroying every city—the men, the women, and the little ones.

7We took all the livestock and the spoil of the cities as prey for ourselves.

8We took the land at that time from the grip of the two Amorite kings beyond the Jordan, from the Arnon Valley to Mount Hermon.

9The Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir.

10All the cities of the plain, all Gilead, and all Bashan, as far as Salcah and Edrei—cities of Og's kingdom in Bashan.

11For only Og, king of Bashan, remained from the remnant of the Rephaim. See, his bed—an iron bed—is it not in Rabbah of the sons of Ammon? Its length was nine cubits, and its width four cubits, by a man's cubit.

12We took possession of this land at that time, from Aroer by the Arnon River and half the hill of Gilead and its cities, and gave it to the Reubenites and the Gadites.

13I gave the remainder of Gilead and all Bashan, Og's kingdom, to half the tribe of Manasseh—all Argob's territory, that is, all Bashan, called the land of the Rephaim.

14Jair son of Manasseh took all the region of Argob to the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and called them after his own name Bashan, Havvoth-jair, to this day.

15To Machir I gave Gilead.

16To the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave from Gilead to the Arnon River, the middle of the river as the border, and to the Jabbok River, the border of the Ammonites.

17The Arabah too, the Jordan and its border, from Chinnereth to the sea of the Arabah—the Salt Sea—beneath the springs of Pisgah on the east.

18I charged you then, saying, "Yahweh your God has given you this land to possess it: you shall cross over armed before your brothers, the sons of Israel, every man of valor."

19But your wives, your little ones, and your livestock—I know you have much livestock—shall remain in your cities that I have given you.

20until Yahweh gives rest to your brothers as to you, and they too possess the land that Yahweh your God is giving them beyond the Jordan; then every one of you shall return to his inheritance, which I have given you.

21I commanded Joshua at that time: "Your eyes have seen everything Yahweh your God did to these two kings, and so Yahweh will do to all the kingdoms you cross over into there."

22Do not fear them, for Yahweh your God—he fights for you.

23I pleaded with Yahweh at that time, saying,

24Lord Yahweh, you have begun to show your servant your greatness and your mighty hand, for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do works like yours and mighty acts like yours?

25Please let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jordan, this good mountain, and Lebanon.

26Yahweh grew angry with me because of you and paid no attention to me, and Yahweh said to me, Enough for you—do not speak to me anymore about this matter.

27Go up to the top of Pisgah, lift your eyes westward, northward, southward, and eastward, and see with your eyes, for you will not cross this Jordan.

28Charge Joshua, strengthen him, and make him resolute; for he will cross over before this people, and he will allot them the land that you will see.

29We dwelt in the valley opposite Beth-peor.
