1 Chronicles 29

1David the king said to the whole assembly, "Solomon my son, whom God has chosen alone, is young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for Yahweh God."

2With all my strength I have prepared for the house of my God gold for goldwork, silver for silverwork, bronze for bronzework, iron for ironwork, and wood for woodwork; onyx stones, gem settings, glistening stones, embroidered work, every precious stone, and marble stones in abundance.

3Moreover, because I delight in the house of my God, I have a special treasure of gold and silver, which I give to the house of my God beyond all that I have prepared for the holy house.

4three thousand talents of Ophir gold and seven thousand talents of refined silver for overlaying the walls of the houses.

5Gold for gold work, silver for silver work, and for all work by the hands of craftsmen—who then offers willingly to consecrate his service today to Yahweh?

6Then the chiefs of the fathers, the chiefs of Israel's tribes, the captains of thousands and hundreds, and the overseers of the king's work offered willingly.

7They gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents of gold and ten thousand darics, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and a hundred thousand talents of iron.

8Those who were found with precious stones gave them to the treasury of Yahweh's house under the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9The people rejoiced over their willingness to give, because with perfect hearts they offered willingly to Yahweh, and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

10David blessed Yahweh before the whole assembly and said, "Blessed are you, Yahweh, God of Israel our father, from everlasting to everlasting."

11Yours, Yahweh, are the majesty, the might, the splendor, the victory, and the glory, for everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to you; yours is the kingdom, Yahweh, and you are exalted as head over all.

12Wealth and honor come from you, and you rule over all; power and might are in your hand, and in your hand it is to exalt and strengthen all.

13Now, our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name.

14But who am I, and who are my people, that we should possess strength to offer so willingly like this? For everything comes from you, and from your hand we have given to you.

15For we are strangers before you and sojourners, like all our fathers. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.

16Yahweh our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and it all belongs to you.

17I know, my God, that you test the heart and delight in uprightness. With an upright heart I have willingly offered all these things. Now I have seen with joy your people present here offering willingly to you.

18Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel our fathers, keep this forever in the imagination of the thoughts of your people's heart, and direct their hearts to you.

19And give Solomon my son a whole heart to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do everything, and to build the palace that I have prepared.

20David said to the entire assembly, "Please bless Yahweh your God!" The entire assembly blessed Yahweh, God of their fathers, bowed their heads, and worshiped Yahweh and the king.

21They offered sacrifices to Yahweh and burnt offerings to Yahweh on the day after that, a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.

22They ate and drank before Yahweh on that day with great joy, made Solomon son of David king a second time, and anointed him to Yahweh as ruler and Zadok as priest.

23Solomon sat on Yahweh's throne as king in place of his father David, and prospered; all Israel obeyed him.

24All the chiefs and mighty men, and also all the sons of King David, submitted to King Solomon.

25Yahweh exalted Solomon greatly in the sight of all Israel and gave him royal majesty such as had not been on any king before him over Israel.

26David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.

27The time he reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

28He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor, and Solomon his son reigned in his place.

29The first and last deeds of King David are indeed recorded in the accounts of Samuel the seer, in the accounts of Nathan the prophet, and in the accounts of Gad the seer.

30with all his reign and power, and the times that passed over him, over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the lands.
