1 Chronicles 4

1Judah's sons: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.

2Reaiah son of Shobal fathered Jahath, and Jahath fathered Ahumai and Lahad; these were the families of the Zorathites.

3These were from Etam's father: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash; and their sister's name was Hazelelponi.

4Penuel, Gedor's father, and Ezer, Hushah's father—these were the sons of Hur, Ephrathah's firstborn, Bethlehem's father.

5Ashur, father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah.

6Naarah gave birth to Ahuzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haakashtari for him. These were the sons of Naarah.

7Helah’s sons were Zereth, Zehoar, Zohar, and Ethnan.

8Koz fathered Anub, Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel son of Harum.

9Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother named him Jabez, saying, "Because I bore him in sorrow."

10Jabez called to the God of Israel, saying, "If you bless me abundantly and enlarge my territory, may your hand be with me, and keep harm from me so it does not grieve me." God granted what he asked.

11Chelub, Shuah's brother, fathered Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.

12Eshton fathered Beth-rapha, Paseah, and Tehinnah, father of Ir-nahash. These were men of Rechah.

13Kenaz's sons were Othniel and Seraiah; Othniel's sons were Hathath.

14Meonothai fathered Ophrah, and Seraiah fathered Joab the father of Craftsmen Valley, for they were craftsmen.

15Sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam; sons of Elah: Kenaz.

16The sons of Jehallelel were Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asareel.

17Ezrah's sons were Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon, and she gave birth to Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah, father of Eshtemoa.

18His wife Jehudijah bore Jered father of Gedor, Heber father of Soco, and Jekuthiel father of Zanoah. These were the sons of Bithiah daughter of Pharaoh whom Mered took.

19The sons of Hodiah's wife, Naham's sister, were Keilah's father the Garmite and Eshtemoa the Maachathite.

20Shimon's sons: Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-Hanan, Tilon. Ishi's sons: Zoheth, Ben-Zoheth.

21The sons of Shelah son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of fine linen workers, of the house of Ashbea.

22Jokim, the men of Cozeba, Joash, and Saraph, who ruled in Moab, and Jashubi-lehem. These matters are ancient.

23These were the potters and those living in Netaim and Gederah; they lived there with the king in his work.

24Simeon’s sons: Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, and Shaul.

25Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.

26Mishma's sons: Hamuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son.

27Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brothers had not many sons, nor did all their clan multiply like the sons of Judah.

28They dwelt in Beersheba, Moladah, and Hazar-shual.

29and at Bilhah, Ezem, and Tolad,

30and Bethuel, Hormah, and Ziklag

31and Beth-marcaboth, Hazar-susim, Beth-birei, and Shaaraim—these were their cities until David's reign.

32Their villages were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan—five cities.

33And all their villages around these cities, to Baal—these were their dwelling places, and they had their genealogy.

34Meshobab, Jamlech, and Joshah son of Amaziah

35and Joel and Jehu son of Josibiah son of Seraiah son of Asiel

36and Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshoaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, and Benaiah,

37and Ziza, son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedaiah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiah

38These who came by name were chiefs in their families, and their fathers' houses burst forth abundantly.

39They went to the entrance of Gedor, even to the east of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.

40They found rich and good pasture, and the land was spacious, quiet, and peaceful—for descendants of Ham had dwelt there before.

41These recorded by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, attacked their tents and the Meunim found there, annihilated them completely until this day, and settled in their place, because pasture for their flocks was there.

42Some of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men, went to Mount Seir, led by Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

43They struck the remnant of Amalek's escapees and dwelt there until this day.
