1 Chronicles 27

1The sons of Israel according to their number—the heads of the fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers who served the king in all matters of the incoming and outgoing divisions month by month throughout all the months of the year—every division twenty-four thousand.

2Over the first division for the first month was Jashobeam son of Zabdiel, and over his division were twenty-four thousand.

3The chief of all the captains of the armies for the first month was from the sons of Perez.

4Over the second month's division was Dodai the Ahohite and his division, with Mikloth the ruler over his division of twenty-four thousand.

5The third army captain for the third month was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the chief priest, and his division consisted of twenty-four thousand.

6This Benaiah was champion of the thirty and over the thirty, and Ammizabad his son was over his division.

7Joab's brother Asahel was fourth for the fourth month, followed by his son Zebadiah over his division of twenty-four thousand.

8The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite, and his division was twenty-four thousand.

9The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, over his division of twenty-four thousand.

10The seventh for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite from the sons of Ephraim, and over his division were twenty-four thousand.

11The eighth for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, a Zarchite, and his division numbered twenty-four thousand.

12The ninth for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, a Benjamite, son of a right-hander, and over his division were twenty-four thousand.

13The tenth for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, the Zarchite, and over his division were twenty-four thousand.

14The eleventh for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite from the sons of Ephraim, and his division numbered twenty-four thousand.

15The twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite of Othniel, and his division numbered twenty-four thousand.

16Over the tribes of Israel, Eliezer son of Zichri ruled the Reubenites, and Shephatiah son of Maacah ruled the Simeonites.

17For the Levites, Hashabiah, Kemuel's son; for Aaron, Zadok.

18For Judah, Elihu one of David's brothers; for Issachar, Omri son of Michael.

19For Zebulun, Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; for Naphtali, Jerimoth son of Azriel.

20For the sons of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Azaziah; for half the tribe of Manasseh, Joel son of Pedaiah.

21For the half of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo, son of Zechariah; for Benjamin, Jaasiel, son of Abner.

22For Dan, Azarel son of Jeroham. These were the chiefs of Israel's tribes.

23David did not take their number from twenty years old and under, because Yahweh had said he would multiply Israel like the stars of the heavens.

24Joab son of Zeruiah began to count but did not finish, and wrath came upon Israel because of it; the number was not entered in the tally of the events of the days of King David.

25Azmaveth son of Adiel was over the king's storehouses, and Jonathan son of Uzziah was over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, in the villages, and in the towers.

26Over those who did the work of the field for the labor of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub.

27Shimei the Ramathite supervised the vineyards, and Zabdi the Shiphmite supervised the produce of the vineyards for the wine storerooms.

28Baal-hanan the Gederite oversaw the olive trees and sycamore trees in the Shephelah, and Joash oversaw the oil storehouses.

29Shitrai the Sharonite was in charge of the cattle pastured in Sharon, and Shaphat son of Adlai was in charge of the cattle in the valleys.

30Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels, and Jehdeiah the Meronothite of the donkeys.

31Jaziz the Hagrite was over the flocks; all these were the rulers of the property belonging to King David.

32Jonathan, David's uncle, was a counselor, a discerning man, and a scribe; Jehiel son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons.

33Ahithophel was counselor to the king, and Hushai the Archite was the king's companion.

34After Ahithophel came Jehoiada son of Benaiah and Abiathar, and Joab commanded the king's army.
