Luke 22

1Now the feast of unleavened bread called Passover was approaching.

2And the chief priests and scribes were seeking how they might kill him, for they feared the people.

3Then Satan entered Judas called Iscariot, one of the twelve.

4He went and conferred with the chief priests and captains about how he might hand him over to them.

5They rejoiced and agreed with him to give him silver.

6He promised, and sought an opportunity to betray him to them without the crowd.

7Then the day of unleavened bread came, on which the Passover had to be sacrificed.

8And he sent Peter and John, saying, “Go, prepare for us the Passover, so that we may eat.”

9They asked him, "Where do you want us to prepare?"

10He said to them, "See, when you enter the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into the house he enters."

11And you shall say to the owner of the house, "The Teacher says to you, 'Where is the guest room where I shall eat the Passover with my disciples?'"

12And he will show you a large furnished upper room. Prepare there.

13They went away and found everything as he had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.

14When the hour came, he reclined, and the apostles with him.

15And he said to them, "With longing I have longed to eat this Passover with you before I suffer."

16For I tell you, I will by no means eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

17And after receiving a cup and giving thanks, he said, "Take this and divide it among yourselves."

18For I tell you, I will by no means drink henceforth from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.

19And taking bread, he gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

20After supper he likewise took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

21But look, the hand of my betrayer is with me on the table.

22For the Son of Man indeed goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man through whom he is betrayed!

23And they began questioning among themselves which of them it might be who was about to do this.

24A rivalry also broke out among them, which of them seems greater.

25He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called benefactors."

26But you must not act that way; instead, let the greater among you become like the younger, and the leader like the one serving.

27For who is greater, the one reclining or the one serving? Is it not the one reclining? But I am among you as the one serving.

28But you are the ones who have remained with me in my trials.

29And I appoint a kingdom to you, just as my Father appointed to me.

30that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31Simon, Simon, see, Satan has demanded you in order to sift you like wheat.

32But I besought for you that your faith might not fail, and you, once you turn back, strengthen your brothers.

33But he said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”

34But he said, "I tell you, Peter, a rooster will not crow today until you deny knowing me three times."

35He said to them, "When I sent you without purse, bag, or shoes, did you lack anything?" But they said, "Nothing."

36He said to them, "But now, let whoever has a purse take it, and likewise a bag; and whoever lacks one, let him sell his cloak and buy a sword."

37For I say to you that this which has been written must be fulfilled in me: “And he was counted with the lawless.” For what concerns me has an end.

38They said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And he said to them, "It is enough."

39He went out and made his way to the Mount of Olives, as was his custom. His disciples also followed him.

40When he arrived at the place, he said to them, "Pray that you do not enter into temptation."

41And he drew away from them about a stone's throw, knelt down, and prayed.

42saying, “Father, if you wish, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours—let it be done.”

43Then an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.

44And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like clots of blood falling to the ground.

45And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping because of grief.

46And he said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray, so that you do not enter into temptation."

47While he was still speaking, a crowd suddenly arrived, and the one called Judas—one of the twelve—was going ahead of them and came near to Jesus to kiss him.

48But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"

49When those around him saw what was about to happen, they said to him, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?"

50And one of them struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear.

51But Jesus answered, “Let it go this far,” and he touched the ear and healed him.

52Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and elders who had come against him, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?"

53Every day, while I was with you in the temple, you did not stretch out hands against me. But this is your hour, and the authority of darkness.

54Seizing him, they led him and brought him into the high priest's house, but Peter was following from a distance.

55But when they had lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter was sitting among them.

56But a certain servant girl saw him sitting by the fire and, looking intently at him, said, "This one also was with him."

57But he denied, saying, "Woman, I do not know him."

58After a little while another who saw him said, “You too are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.”

59And when about one hour had passed, another insisted confidently, saying, "Certainly this man also was with him, for he is a Galilean."

60But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you say." Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.

61And the Lord turned and looked at Peter, and Peter remembered the Lord's saying, how he had said to him, "Before a rooster crows today, you will deny me three times."

62And he went out and wept bitterly.

63And the men holding him mocked him and beat him.

64And having blindfolded him, they kept asking, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?"

65And blaspheming, they said many other things against him.

66As soon as day came, the presbytery of the people was assembled—chief priests and scribes—and they led him into their council.

67They asked, "If you are the Christ, tell us." But he said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe."

68But if I ask, you will by no means answer.

69From now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.

70They all said, "Are you then the Son of God?" He said to them, "You say that I am."

71They said, "What further need do we have of testimony? For we ourselves have heard it from his mouth."
