Luke 13

1Now some present with him at that time reported to him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.

2He answered them, "Do you suppose these Galileans were greater sinners than all the other Galileans because they have suffered these things?"

3No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all perish likewise.

4Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think they were sinners more than all the people dwelling in Jerusalem?

5No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all perish likewise.

6He told this parable: A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.

7He said to the vinedresser, "Look, for three years now I've come seeking fruit on this fig tree and found none—cut it down! Why does it also waste the soil?"

8But he replied, "Lord, spare it this year too, until I dig around it and put manure on it."

9And if it indeed bears fruit in the time to come, fine; but if not, cut it down.

10Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.

11And look, a woman was there with a spirit of weakness for eighteen years; she stayed bent over and could not straighten up at all.

12When Jesus saw her, he called out to her and said, "Woman, you are released from your infirmity."

13He laid his hands on her, and immediately she stood straight and glorified God.

14But the ruler of the synagogue replied indignantly because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, saying to the crowd, "There are six days in which work must be done; therefore come on those days to be healed, and not on the Sabbath day."

15The Lord answered him, “Hypocrites, doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it away to water?”

16But shouldn't this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be released from this bond on the Sabbath day?

17As he said these things, all his opponents were put to shame, and the whole crowd rejoiced at all the glorious things being done by him.

18So he said, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?”

19It is like a mustard seed that a man took and planted in his own garden; it grew, became a tree, and the birds of the sky nested in its branches.

20And again he said, "What shall I compare the kingdom of God to?"

21It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour until it was all leavened.

22He passed through cities and villages, teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem.

23Someone said to him, “Lord, are the saved few?” He said to them,

24Strive to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

25Once the master of the house rises and shuts the door, you will begin standing outside and knocking on the door, saying, "Lord, open to us." Then, in reply, he will say to you, "I do not know you, nor where you come from."

26Then you will begin to say, "We ate and drank before you, and you taught in our streets."

27And he will say to you, "I say to you, I do not know where you come from; depart from me, all you workers of unrighteousness."

28There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in God's kingdom, while you are cast outside.

29And they will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline in the kingdom of God.

30And look, there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.

31At that hour some Pharisees approached him, saying, "Leave and go from here, because Herod wants to kill you."

32He said to them, "Go tell that fox, 'Look, I cast out demons and finish healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I am perfected.'"

33Nevertheless, I must go today and tomorrow and the following day, because it cannot be that a prophet perish outside Jerusalem.

34Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her—how often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused.

35See, your house is forsaken to you. I say to you, you will never see me until the moment arrives when you say, "Blessed is the one coming in the name of the Lord."
