Luke 21

1He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury.

2He saw a certain poor widow casting two mites there.

3And he said, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow cast more than all."

4For all these cast into the offerings out of their abundance, but she cast all the livelihood she had out of her poverty.

5As some were speaking about the temple, how it has been adorned with beautiful stones and gifts, he said.

6These things which you see—days will come in which no stone will be left upon another that will not be thrown down.

7They asked him, saying, "Teacher, when then will these things take place, and what sign will there be when they are about to happen?"

8He said, "Take care not to be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and, 'The time has drawn near.' Do not go after them."

9But when you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be frightened, for these things must happen first, but the end will not come immediately.

10Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.”

11There will be great earthquakes along with famines and plagues in various places, and terrors and great signs from heaven.

12But before all these, they will lay their hands upon you and persecute you, delivering you to synagogues and prisons, as you are led before kings and rulers for my name's sake.

13It will become a testimony for you.

14Therefore, resolve in your hearts not to premeditate how to defend yourselves.

15For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries will not be able to withstand or contradict.

16You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death.

17And you will be hated by all because of my name.

18Yet no hair from your head will perish.

19Gain your lives by your endurance.

20But when you see armies encircling Jerusalem, then recognize that its desolation has drawn near.

21Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains, those in her midst must depart, and those in the countryside must not enter her.

22For these are days of vengeance for all that is written to be fulfilled.

23Woe to pregnant women and to those who are nursing in those days! For great distress will come upon the land, and wrath against this people.

24And they will fall by the sword's edge and be taken captive into all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the seasons of the Gentiles are completed.

25And there will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars, and on earth anguish among nations in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and waves.

26People will faint from fear and expectation of the things coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

27And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

28But when these things begin to happen, look up and raise your heads, because your redemption draws near.

29And he spoke a parable to them: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees."

30When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that the summer is already near.

31So you too, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.

32Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place.

33Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

34But be on guard for yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness, and worldly anxieties, and that day come upon you suddenly.

35For it will come like a snare on all those dwelling on the face of the whole earth.

36Keep watch in every season, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things about to happen and to stand before the Son of Man.

37He spent the days teaching in the temple, and the nights going out to lodge on the mount called Olives.

38And all the people would come early in the morning to him in the temple to hear him.
