Luke 16

1He also said to his disciples, “A certain rich man had a steward, and this steward was accused to him of squandering his possessions.”

2He called him and said to him, "What is this I hear about you? Render the account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward."

3The steward said to himself, "What shall I do, for my lord is taking the stewardship from me? I cannot dig; I am ashamed to beg."

4I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.

5Calling each one of his own lord's debtors to himself, he said to the first, "How much do you owe my lord?"

6He said, "A hundred measures of oil." He said to him, "Take your bill, sit down quickly, and write fifty."

7Then he said to another, “How much do you owe?” He said, “A hundred measures of wheat.” He said to him, “Take your bill and write eighty.”

8And the master commended the unrighteous steward because he acted shrewdly, for the sons of this age are shrewder than the sons of light in their own generation.

9And I tell you, make friends for yourselves from the mammon of unrighteousness, so that when it fails, they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.

10Whoever is faithful in very little is faithful also in much, and whoever is unjust in very little is unjust also in much.

11If therefore you have not been faithful in unrighteous mammon, who will entrust the true riches to you?

12And if you have not been faithful in what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours?

13No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold fast to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Mammon.

14Now the Pharisees, who were greedy for money, heard all these things and sneered at him.

15He said to them, "You are those who declare yourselves righteous before people, but God knows your hearts, for what is exalted among people is an abomination before God."

16The law and prophets were valid until John; since then God's kingdom is preached, and everyone forces a way into it.

17But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of the law to fail.

18Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and whoever marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

19There was a certain rich man who dressed in purple and fine linen, rejoicing lavishly every day.

20But a certain beggar named Lazarus had been laid at his gate, full of sores.

21And longing to be filled from what fell from the rich man's table. But even the dogs would come and lick his sores.

22The beggar died and was carried by angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.

23And in hell he raised his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham from afar and Lazarus in his bosom.

24And he cried out, "Father Abraham, pity me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this flame."

25But Abraham said, “Child, remember that you received your good things in your lifetime, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now here he is comforted, while you are tormented.”

26And beyond all this, between us and you a great gulf stands fixed, so that those desiring to pass from here to you cannot, nor from there to us can any cross over.

27He said, "I beg you therefore, father, to send him to my father's house."

28for I have five brothers, so that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

29But Abraham said, "They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them."

30He said, “No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.”

31He said to him, "If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone rises from the dead."
