Romans 1

1Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called an apostle, set apart for God's gospel.

2which he promised beforehand through his prophets in holy scriptures,

3concerning his Son, born from the seed of David according to the flesh,

4who was designated the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.

5Through whom we received grace and apostleship for obedience from faith among all the nations, for the sake of his name.

6Among whom you also are called by Jesus Christ.

7To all who are in Rome, God's beloved, called saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

8First, indeed, I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ concerning all of you, that your faith is proclaimed in the whole world.

9For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of his Son, how unceasingly I remember you.

10always in my prayers, imploring if somehow now at last I may succeed by God's will in coming to you.

11For I long to see you, so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you for your strengthening.

12That is, to be encouraged together with you through one another's faith, both yours and mine.

13I do not wish you unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you but was hindered until now, so that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among the other Gentiles.

14I am a debtor both to Greeks and barbarians, both to wise and foolish.

15So, for my part, I am ready also to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome.

16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is God's power for salvation to everyone who believes—to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

17For God's righteousness is revealed in it from faith to faith, as it is written, "But the righteous will live by faith."

18For God's wrath is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who restrain the truth in unrighteousness.

19because what is known about God is evident in them, for God revealed it to them.

20For his invisible qualities are clearly seen from the creation of the world, being perceived through things made—even his eternal power and divinity—so they are inexcusable.

21Because, though they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks, but grew futile in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened.

22Claiming to be wise, they became fools.

23and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for a likeness of an image of corruptible man, and birds, four-footed animals, and creeping things.

24Therefore God handed them over in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, for their bodies to be dishonored among themselves.

25who exchanged God's truth for a lie, worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26For this reason God delivered them to dishonorable passions, for even their women exchanged the natural use for what is contrary to nature.

27Likewise also the men, having forsaken the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men performing unseemliness with men and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their delusion.

28And just as they did not approve having God in their knowledge, God delivered them to a worthless mind, to do the things that are not proper.

29Having been filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, malice, full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity, whisperers.

30backbiters, God-haters, insolent, haughty, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents

31foolish, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unmerciful

32who, knowing God's judgment that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do them but also approve of those who practice them.
