Lumin Translation

Romans 11

So I ask: has God rejected his people? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham from the tribe of Benjamin.

God has not repudiated his people whom he foreknew. Or do you not know what Scripture says about Elijah, how he intercedes with God against Israel?

Lord, they killed your prophets, demolished your altars; and I alone was left, and they seek my life.

But what does the oracle say to him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal."

So also then in the present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

But if by grace, then no longer from works; otherwise grace is no longer grace.

What then? Israel did not obtain what it seeks, but the election obtained it, and the rest were hardened.

As it is written, God gave them a spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this day.

And David says, "Let their table become a snare, a trap, a stumbling block, and a retribution to them."

Let their eyes grow dark so they do not see, and bow their backs always.

I say therefore, did they stumble that they might fall? May it never be! But by their trespass salvation has reached the Gentiles, to rouse them to jealousy.

But if their fall is riches of the world, and their diminishing riches of the Gentiles, how much more their fullness.

But I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I glorify my ministry.

If somehow I might provoke my flesh to jealousy and save some of them.

For if their rejection is the world's reconciliation, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

If the firstfruit is holy, the lump is too; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.

But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became a joint sharer of the root and richness of the olive tree,

Do not boast against the branches. But if you boast, you do not bear the root, but the root bears you.

Then you will boast, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in."

Well; by unbelief they were broken off, but you stand by faith. Do not set your mind on high things, but fear.

For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.

See then God's kindness and severity: severity toward those who fell, but toward you God's kindness, if you continue in his kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.

And they too, if they do not persist in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.

For if you were cut out from a naturally wild olive tree and grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?

For I do not wish you to remain ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you might not deem yourselves wise, that a partial hardening has come upon Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles enters.

And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come from Zion and turn away ungodliness from Jacob.”

And this is my covenant to them, when I take away their sins.

As regards the gospel, they are enemies on your account, but as regards the election, they are beloved on account of the fathers.

For God's gifts and calling are without regret.

For just as you once disobeyed God, but now have received mercy through their disobedience,

So these too have now disobeyed, that they also might now receive mercy through your mercy.

For God has confined all to disobedience, that he might have mercy on all.

Oh, the depth of God's riches, wisdom, and knowledge! How unfathomable his judgments, how inscrutable his ways!

For who has known the Lord's mind, or who has become his counselor?

Or who first gave to him, and it will be paid back to him?

For all things are from him, through him, and to him. To him be glory forever. Amen.
