What does the Bible say about joy?
Biblical joy is deeper than a mood you can choose on command. It is fullness in God’s presence, fruit of the Spirit, and — in hard seasons — a “yet” that does not cancel weeping. Habakkuk rejoices though the fields fail. Paul can be sorrowful, yet always rejoicing. This page will not tell you to “just choose joy,” and it will not treat lament as a failure of faith.
Joy in the Bible

The psalms hold weeping and morning together. Jesus promises a joy no one takes from you, even while he tells the disciples they will weep. Romans 15:13 asks the God of hope to fill you with all joy and peace in believing. Hebrews 12:2 says Jesus, for the joy set before him, endured the cross. That is not a demand that you feel sunny while you suffer.
