Bible answers
What does the Bible say about hope?
Biblical hope is not wishful thinking. It is confident expectation anchored in the character of God and the resurrection of Jesus. Scripture treats hope as something durable — able to grow in suffering rather than only in good times — because of who it rests on.
Key verses
- Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace so you overflow with hope.
- Jeremiah 29:11 God’s plans are for welfare, to give you a future and a hope.
- Romans 5:3-5 Suffering produces endurance, character, and a hope that does not disappoint.
- Lamentations 3:22-24 His mercies are new every morning; great is his faithfulness.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Where the world hopes that things might work out, Scripture points to a hope with a name and a track record. It can grow in the dark precisely because it is tethered not to circumstances but to a faithful God whose mercies, Lamentations says, are new every single morning.
