Revelation 18

1After these things I saw another angel descending from heaven with great authority, and the earth was illumined with his glory.

2And he cried out with a powerful voice, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, and she has become a habitation for demons, a cage for every unclean spirit, a cage for every unclean bird, a cage for every unclean and hated beast."

3Because all nations have drunk the wine of the wrath of her prostitution, the kings of the earth have committed prostitution with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the abundance of her luxury.

4And I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, so that you do not share in her sins and receive her plagues."

5For her sins have heaped up to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.

6Pay her back as she paid back, and double to her the double according to her works. In the cup she mixed, mix double for her.

7As much as she glorified herself and reveled, so much torment and grief give her, for in her heart she says, "I sit queen, and am no widow, and shall never see grief."

8For this reason her plagues will come in one day—death, mourning, and famine—and she will be consumed with fire, because the Lord God who judged her is mighty.

9And the kings of the earth who prostituted themselves with her and lived in luxury alongside her will weep and lament over her when they see the smoke of her burning.

10Standing at a distance because of fear of her torment, saying, "Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the mighty city! Because in one hour your judgment has come."

11And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their merchandise any longer.

12cargo of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen, purple, silk, and scarlet, all thyine wood, every ivory vessel, every vessel from the most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble

13and cinnamon, spice, incense, perfume, frankincense, wine, olive oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle, sheep, horses, chariots, slaves, and souls of people.

14And the fruit your soul desired has gone from you, and all dainty and splendid things have vanished from you, and you will never find them again.

15The merchants of these things, who grew rich from her, will stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning.

16saying, "Woe, woe, the great city, dressed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold, precious stones, and pearls!"

17For in one hour such vast riches were devastated. Every shipmaster and everyone who sails to any place, sailors and all who work the sea, stood at a distance.

18They cried out, seeing the smoke of her burning, saying, "Who is like the great city?"

19They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and mourning, "Woe! Woe! The great city, in which everyone who owned ships on the sea grew rich from her wealth—for in one hour she was laid waste."

20Rejoice over her, heaven, you saints, apostles, and prophets, for God has rendered your judgment against her.

21One mighty angel lifted a stone like a great millstone and hurled it into the sea, saying, “Thus with a violent rush Babylon the great city will be thrown down, and will never be found again.”

22And the sound of harpists, musicians, pipers, and trumpeters will never be heard in you again, nor any craftsman of every craft be found in you anymore, nor the sound of a millstone be heard in you ever again.

23And lamp light will never shine in you again, nor the bridegroom's voice or the bride's be heard in you again; for your merchants were the earth's great ones, for your sorcery led all nations astray.

24And the blood of prophets and saints, and of all the slain on the earth, was found in her.
