Proverbs 27

1Do not glory in tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bear.

2Let another commend you, not your own mouth—a stranger, not your own lips.

3A stone is heavy, and the sand burdensome; but a fool's anger is heavier than both.

4Wrath is cruel, and anger a torrent; but who can stand before jealousy?

5Revealed rebuke is better than concealed love.

6A friend’s wounds are faithful, but an enemy’s kisses are deceitful.

7A satisfied appetite loathes honeycomb, but to a hungry appetite every bitter thing is sweet.

8Like a bird straying from her nest, so is a man who strays from his home.

9Oil and incense gladden the heart; the sweetness of his friend comes from the counsel of the soul.

10Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend, nor go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity; a nearby neighbor is better than a distant brother.

11Be wise, my son, and gladden my heart, so I will have an answer for my taunter.

12A prudent man sees evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are punished.

13Take his garment when he pledges for a stranger, and take him in pledge for a foreign woman.

14Whoever blesses his companion with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it will be counted a curse to him.

15Persistent dripping on a day of heavy rain and a wife of contention and strife are alike.

16He who restrains her restrains the wind, and the oil of his right hand betrays.

17Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens his friend's face.

18Whoever guards a fig tree eats its fruit; whoever watches his master will be honored.

19As a face in water is face to face, so a man's heart is man to man.

20Sheol and Abaddon never have enough, nor do a man's eyes ever have enough.

21The fining pot for silver, the furnace for gold, and a man according to his praise.

22Though you pound a fool in the mortar amid the crushed wheat with the pestle, his folly will not depart from him.

23Know well the condition of your flocks, and set your heart to your herds.

24For riches are not forever, nor a crown from generation to generation.

25The hay is removed, new grass appears, and the herbs of the hills are gathered.

26Your clothing comes from lambs, and the price of a field from goats.

27Enough goats' milk for your food, for the food of your household, and nourishment for your maidens.
