Proverbs 7

1My son, keep my words and treasure my commandments within you.

2Guard my commandments and live; guard my teaching as the pupil of your eye.

3Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

4Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your kinswoman.

5to guard you from the wayward woman, from the foreigner who entices with her words.

6For from my house's window, through my lattice, I looked out.

7I saw among the foolish and perceived among the youths a youth lacking sense.

8Crossing the street near her corner, he went along the path to her house.

9In the dusk, in the evening of the day, in the darkest part of the night, and in the gloom.

10Look, a woman met him in a prostitute's attire, with a crafty heart.

11She is clamorous and rebellious; her feet do not remain in her house.

12Now in the street, now in the squares, and near every corner she lies in wait.

13She seized him and kissed him, her face brazen as she said to him.

14I have sacrifices of peace offerings with me; today I have fulfilled my vows.

15So I came out to meet you, to seek your face early, and I found you.

16I have decked my bed with tapestry coverings and with carved fine linen from Egypt.

17I have scented my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18Come, let's drink our fill of love until morning. Let's delight ourselves with love.

19For the husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey.

20He has taken a bundle of money in his hand. He will come to his house on the day of the full moon.

21With abundant persuasion she swayed him; with flattery from her lips she compelled him.

22He went after her at once, like an ox going to the slaughter, like a fool to chastening stocks.

23until an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird rushing to the snare, unaware that it costs him his life.

24Now, sons, listen to me and give heed to the words of my mouth.

25Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray in her paths.

26For she has cast down many slain, and all her slain are mighty.

27Her house is the road to Sheol, descending to death's inner chambers.
