Proverbs 14

1Every wise woman builds her house, but folly breaks it down with her hands.

2Whoever walks in uprightness fears Yahweh, but whoever is perverse in his ways despises him.

3In a fool's mouth is a rod of haughtiness, but the lips of the wise guard them.

4Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but abundant produce comes from the ox's strength.

5A faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness breathes out lies.

6A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge is easy to the discerning.

7Go from the presence of a foolish man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips.

8The wisdom of the prudent discerns his path, but the folly of fools is deceit.

9Fools scoff at guilt, but among the upright there is favor.

10The heart knows its soul's bitterness, and no stranger mingles in its joy.

11The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

12There is a way right in a man's sight, but its end is the ways of death.

13Even in laughter the heart aches, and the end of joy is sorrow.

14The backslider in heart is filled from his ways, and a good man from himself.

15The naive trusts every word, but the prudent discerns his path.

16A wise person fears and turns from evil, but the fool rages and is overconfident.

17A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, and a scheming man is hated.

18The simple have folly as their heritage, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19Evildoers bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20The poor is hated even by his neighbor, but many love the rich.

21Whoever despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is one who shows favor to the poor and humble.

22Do those who plot evil not go astray? Kindness and faithfulness belong to those who plot good.

23All toil yields profit, but words from the lips lead only to poverty.

24The riches of the wise are their crown, but the folly of fools is folly.

25A faithful witness delivers lives, but a deceitful witness breathes out lies.

26In the fear of Yahweh is mighty confidence, and he will be a refuge for his children.

27The fear of Yahweh is a spring of life for turning aside from death's snares.

28In the abundance of people is a king's glory, but in the lack of people is a prince's ruin.

29Slow to anger shows great understanding, but a hasty spirit exalts folly.

30A healing heart is the life of the body, but envy is rottenness of the bones.

31Whoever defrauds the poor insults his Maker, but whoever honors him shows favor to the needy.

32The wicked is driven away in his calamity, but the righteous trusts in his death.

33Wisdom rests in the heart of the discerning, but becomes known among fools.

34Righteousness exalts a nation, but kindness to peoples is sin.

35A king delights in a discerning servant, but his wrath falls on one who brings shame.
