Proverbs 15

1A tender answer allays wrath, but a grievous word arouses anger.

2The tongue of the wise enhances knowledge, but the mouth of fools spews folly.

3Yahweh's eyes are everywhere, watching the evil and the good.

4A healing tongue is a tree of life, but perversity in it fractures the spirit.

5A fool scorns his father's discipline, but one who keeps correction is prudent.

6Treasure abounds in the righteous' court, but trouble stirs in the ungodly's gain.

7The lips of the wise scatter knowledge, but not the heart of fools.

8The sacrifice of the wicked is Yahweh's abomination, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

9The way of the wicked is an abomination to Yahweh, but he loves whoever pursues righteousness.

10Discipline is harsh for whoever forsakes the path; one who hates correction dies.

11Sheol and Abaddon lie before Yahweh—how much more the hearts of the sons of man!

12A scoffer does not love rebuke; he will not go to the wise.

13A joyful heart brightens the face, but grief in the heart crushes the spirit.

14The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly.

15All the days of the afflicted are grievous, but a pleasant heart has a constant feast.

16Better a little with the fear of Yahweh than great treasure with trouble.

17Better a meal of vegetables where love is than a fattened ox with hatred.

18A hot-tempered man provokes strife, but one slow to anger calms quarrels.

19The sluggard's way is like a thorn hedge, but the path of the upright is a level highway.

20A wise son gladdens his father, but a foolish man despises his mother.

21Folly is joy to one lacking sense, but a man of understanding walks straight.

22Plans fail without counsel, but with an abundance of counselors they stand.

23A man finds joy in the answer of his mouth, and how good a word in its season!

24The path of life ascends for the wise, so he turns aside from Sheol below.

25Yahweh uproots the house of the proud, but he establishes the widow's border.

26Evil thoughts are an abomination to Yahweh, but the words of the pure are pleasant.

27He who covets gain troubles his house, but he who hates gifts will live.

28The heart of the righteous ponders answers, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evils.

29Yahweh stays far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

30Bright eyes gladden the heart; good news fattens the bones.

31The ear that heeds life-giving correction dwells among the wise.

32Whoever disregards discipline despises his own soul, but whoever heeds reproof acquires understanding.

33The fear of Yahweh is wisdom's discipline, and humility before honor.
