Proverbs 10

1Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son gladdens his father, but a foolish son is sorrow to his mother.

2Treasures of wickedness bring no benefit, but righteousness delivers from death.

3Yahweh does not famish the soul of the righteous, but he drives away the desire of the wicked.

4The worker with a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent enriches.

5Whoever gathers in summer is a prudent son, but whoever sleeps during harvest is a shameful son.

6Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

7The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked rots.

8The wise of heart accepts commandments, but a loose-lipped fool will fall.

9Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever perverts his ways will be known.

10One who winks with the eye causes sorrow, but a fool falls by his lips.

11The mouth of the righteous is a spring of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

12Hatred rouses strife, but love covers all transgressions.

13Wisdom lies on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of one lacking sense.

14Wise people store up knowledge, but a fool's mouth is near destruction.

15The wealth of the rich is his strong city; the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

16The wages of the righteous lead to life; the gain of the wicked leads to sin.

17Whoever guards discipline follows the path to life, but whoever forsakes correction leads others astray.

18Whoever conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever utters slander is a fool.

19In an abundance of words sin does not cease, but he who holds back his lips acts prudently.

20The tongue of the righteous is fine silver; the heart of the wicked has little value.

21The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die from lack of understanding.

22Yahweh's blessing enriches, and he adds no trouble with it.

23Doing mischief is sport to a fool, but wisdom to a man of understanding.

24The fear of the wicked will befall him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.

25When the tempest passes, the wicked disappear, but the righteous is an eternal foundation.

26Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.

27The fear of Yahweh lengthens days, but the years of the wicked are cut short.

28The hope of the righteous is joy, but the hope of the wicked perishes.

29The way of Yahweh is a fortress for the upright, but ruin for the workers of evil.

30The righteous will never be shaken, but the wicked will not dwell in the land.

31The mouth of the righteous yields wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.

32The lips of the righteous know what pleases, but the mouth of the wicked is perverse.
