Matthew 11

1When Jesus finished instructing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and proclaim in their cities.

2When John heard Christ's deeds in prison, he sent his disciples.

3asked him, "Are you the coming one, or do we expect another?"

4And Jesus answered them, “Go, report to John what you hear and see.”

5The blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and good news is preached to the poor.

6And blessed is whoever does not take offense at me.

7As these were departing, Jesus began saying to the crowds about John, "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?"

8But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft apparel? Look, those who wear soft apparel are in kings' houses.

9But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

10This is the one about whom it is written: "Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you."

11Truly I tell you, no one greater than John the Baptist has arisen among those born of women; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven endures violence, and the violent seize it.

13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

14And if you want to receive it, this is Elijah, the one about to come.

15Whoever has ears, let him hear.

16But to what will I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces who call to the others.

17They say, “We piped to you, and you did not dance; we mourned, and you did not lament.”

18For John came without eating or drinking, and they say, "He has a demon."

19The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, "Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!" But wisdom is justified by her deeds.

20Then he began to reproach the cities where most of his miracles had taken place, because they did not repent.

21Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the deeds of power done among you had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22But I say to you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

23And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will descend to hell, because if the miracles done in you had occurred in Sodom, it would have lasted until today.

24But I say to you that it will be more bearable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.

25At that time Jesus responded, "I give you thanks, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants."

26Yes, Father, for so it was your good pleasure.

27All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

28Come to me, all you who toil and are burdened, and I will refresh you.

29Bear my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
