Matthew 8

1When he came down from the mountain, many crowds followed him.

2And behold, a leper approached and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you wish, you can cleanse me."

3And he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, "I am willing; be cleansed." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

4And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one, but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

5When he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him, pleading with him.

6and saying, "Lord, my servant lies paralyzed at home, suffering severe torment."

7And he said to him, "I myself will come and heal him."

8And the centurion replied, "Lord, I am not worthy for you to enter under my roof, but only say a word, and my servant will be healed."

9For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under me; I say to one, "Go," and he goes; and to another, "Come," and he comes; and to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.

10When Jesus heard, he marveled and said to those following, "Amen, I say to you, with no one in Israel have I found such great faith."

11But I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

12But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

13And Jesus said to the centurion, "Go. As you believed, let it be done for you." And the servant was healed in that hour.

14And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law laid low and burning with fever.

15He touched her hand, and the fever left her. She arose and served him.

16When evening came, they brought many who were demonized to him; he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all who were ill.

17so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, saying: "He himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses."

18When Jesus saw many crowds around him, he commanded them to go over to the other side.

19Then a scribe approached him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."

20And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."

21Another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, let me first go bury my father."

22But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."

23And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.

24And suddenly a great storm arose on the sea, so that the waves were covering the boat, but he was asleep.

25And they came to him and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing."

26And he said to them, "Why are you fearful, you of little faith?" Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and a great calm came.

27But the men were amazed, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?”

28And when he came to the far side into the Gadarenes region, two demon-possessed men met him, emerging from the tombs—savagely fierce, so that no one could pass along that road.

29And behold, they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with you, Son of God? Have you come here before the time to torment us?"

30Now there was a herd of many pigs feeding far from them.

31The demons pleaded with him, saying, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs."

32And he said to them, "Go!" They came out and entered the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the cliff into the sea and died in the waters.

33But the herdsmen fled, went into the city, and reported everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed.

34And look, the whole city came out to meet Jesus, and seeing him they pleaded with him to depart from their territory.
