Matthew 7

1Do not judge, so that you will not be judged.

2For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.

3Why do you see the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the beam in your own eye?

4Or how will you say to your brother, "Let me cast the speck out of your eye," and look, the plank is in your eye?

5You hypocrite, first remove the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

6Do not give what is holy to dogs, nor throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them under their feet, turn, and tear you.

7Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

8For everyone who asks receives, and whoever seeks finds, and to whoever knocks it will be opened.

9Or who among you is a man who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

10Or even if he asks for a fish, will he not give him a serpent?

11If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him.

12Therefore whatever you desire people to do to you, do the same to them too; for this is the law and the prophets.

13Enter through the narrow gate because the gate is wide and the way broad—the one leading to destruction—and many are those entering through it.

14Because the gate is narrow and the way that leads to life is difficult, few are those who find it.

15Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

16You will recognize them by their fruits. Do people gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?

17Thus every good tree bears fine fruit, but the rotten tree bears evil fruit.

18A good tree cannot bear evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bear good fruit.

19Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

20Therefore you will surely recognize them by their fruits.

21Not everyone calling me "Lord, Lord" will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one doing my Father's will in heaven.

22Many will say to me on that day, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons, and in your name perform many powerful deeds?"

23And then I will declare to them, "I never knew you—depart from me, you who practice lawlessness."

24So everyone who hears these words of mine and practices them will be likened to a wise man who built his house on the rock.

25The rain fell, the floods came, the winds blew and beat against that house, but it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

26And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

27And the rain fell, the floods came, the winds blew and struck that house, and it fell—its fall was great.

28And it came about when Jesus finished these words that the crowds were astounded by his teaching.

29for he was teaching them as one possessing authority, and not as their scribes.
